Fire victim reacts to new-found fame
OKLAHOMA CITY — Saturday Oklahoma was introduced to a metro woman named Sweet Brown. Her reaction to a fire at her apartment complex was shown on our evening newscast.
She said, “Well, I woke up to get me a cold pop and then I though somebody was barbecuing. I said, ’Oh, Lord Jesus it’s a fire.’ Then I ran out. I didn’t grab no shoes or nothing Jesus. I ran for my life and then the smoke got me, I got bronchitis! Ain’t nobody got time for that.”
Since then Sweet Brown has gone viral.
Her big personality has brought her a lot of attention on the Internet.
We caught up with Sweet Brown Tuesday.
Regarding her new-found fame she said, “I’ve been shown it, but I don’t like looking at it because I don’t like looking at myself like that because I look like a joke and I was really serious!”
The attention likely won’t fade soon.
Sweet Brown’s interview from Saturday has been the top story on our website and Tuesday had more than 20,000 hits on YouTube.
Sweet Brown was shocked to learn of her fame.
She said, “Are you serious? Wow, that’s amazing. You think I can be a superstar?”
Her son Stanford, who made his own appearance in the popular video, was one of many to repost the YouTube link to Facebook.
While some are questioning whether Sweet Brown was faking her reaction, her son said that really is his mother’s personality.
If you’re wondering about her fear of bronchitis, she said she’s much better now.
Sweet Brown said, “I couldn’t breathe a little, but I’ll manage. I’ll be alright.”
Her apartment was not damaged by the fire.
The power was still off to the complex Tuesday morning; however, residents were told it would be turned on by the end of the day.
