EDMOND, Okla. — A former employee is accused of stealing nearly $18,000 from an Edmond church.

Police say Chalea Boo Crow, 37, took the money from the Highland Park Baptist Church over a period of 14 months.

Church officials told investigators that Crow was the financial secretary.

“They discovered that this person was writing checks from the bank accounts for cashier’s checks and she would go and make some donations or pay some bills but would then pocket the rest of it in cashier’s checks,” James Hamm said, Edmond Police.

According to the church, Crow admitted to taking the money and then gave back $1,960.

Crow now faces embezzlement charges.
