Walmart employee saves man’s life in checkout line
WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Most Walmarts have everything and one metro family said the Walmart in Weatherford had an angel there the day they needed one.
Carl Coy and his dog were on their way from Del City to Foss Lake on a camping trip.
Coy decided to stop at the Walmart in Weatherford for a few last-minute supplies.
He said he felt funny on the way into the store as if there was a plate on his chest.
Coy said, “I remember going in to Walmart. I remember picking up a few things and kind of remember going to the checkout line.”
That’s where he was when he collapsed from a heart attack.
A female cashier went to work performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
Coy’s aunt, Sandra Crawford, said, “The whole thing is just unreal. The medics said when they got there, there was no heartbeat at all. Said he had actually died.”
Coy was taken to the regional hospital, then airlifted to a heart hospital where they revived him.
The doctors told his family they would have lost him for good had it not been for the woman in Walmart.
Crawford said, “Thanks to the persistence of whoever did the CPR, he’s still here with us.”
Coy said, “I’d just really like to thank the person.”
Crawford adds, “People need to know that good things still happen out there and that life is good.”
Carl had a stint put in Monday and is trying to take it easy.
His desire to work, hike and be outdoors has him itching to get back to life as it was before that scary camping trip.
