New details released in fatal plane crash
GUTHRIE, Okla.—Investigators have released new details into the cause of a deadly plane crash that claimed the life of a local man last year.
According to the NTSB report, the plane flown by Darrell Smittle was fueled for a trip to Arkansas but wasn’t filled up for the return flight.
On the way back, the engine lost power just east of I-35 near Highway 105, colliding with electric power lines before crashing into a Logan County backyard.
Smittle, 62, was from Edmond and died on impact.
His son and grandson, Darrell Stewart Smittle and Joshua Smittle, survived.
