EDMOND, Okla. -- An Edmond man is arrested, accused of paying hundreds of dollars for someone else's social security number.
Edmond police went to a restaurant in the Shops at Spring Creek area after they got a call for help from another state.
"Our criminal investigation division received a request for assistance from the Gilbert, Arizona police department in regards to this case," said Sgt. Chad A. Langley with the Edmond police department.
A man in Gilbert, Arizona went to file his tax return and found out someone had already done that with his social security number.
That person was traced to Edmond.
"He made contact with somebody who we believe is out of California, arranged to send a money order for $600 to that person and in return got a social security number," said Sgt. Langley. "It's not uncommon for us to run into things like that. But those cases are very difficult to make because that money order is very difficult to track. But in a situation like this we were able to make an arrest which is beneficial for us and we hope that we can kind of curb this in the future."
Police say Francisco Javier Rios-Lucero, 35, was here illegally and told police he had to have a social security number to get a job. Rios-Lucero is in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Sgt. Langley says he will be deported.
