Watermelon truck leaks fuel on I-35
OKLAHOMA CITY — Hazardous Materials crews from the Oklahoma City Fire Department spent several hours cleaning up after a fuel spill on I-35 near Southeast Grand Boulevard.
It happened about midnight Tuesday night.
The semi was traveling from South Texas to Nebraska making a watermelon delivery.
The truck driver said that he ran over a tire after crossing the Oklahoma border from Texas.
The tire caused a tear in his 30-gallon fuel tank.
The driver told police he thought he had patched the leak.
However, a passerby flagged down the truck near I-35 and Grand because the fuel was continuing to spill onto the highway.
Hazmat crews responded and cleaned the spill.
Traffic was unaffected.
The semi continued on to Nebraska, watermelons in tow.
