Sex offender arrested with child porn at elementary school

Sex offender arrested at elementary school

NORMAN, Okla. — A Norman man is arrested for having child pornography on his phone and police caught up with him at, of all places, an elementary school.

Police said, to make matters worse, he’s a registered sex offender.

Norman police were initially called out to Kennedy Elementary School on a report of an open door.

Trisha Calvert lives across the street and said she noticed several police cars at the school and then noticed two people walking out of the building.

“I saw a guy and a girl come walking out of this entryway over here and I didn’t think anything of it. And they gave each other a hug and she went that way and he went that way,” Calvert said.

That’s when police caught up with the man, 27-year-old Charles Morrow.

According to the police affidavit, Morrow told police his name but gave a false date of birth.

He eventually admitted he was a registered sex offender and didn’t want the officer to know that.

Police then asked to search his cell phone and found several pictures of child pornography.

“Any time you have a person with this history that is around a place where he knows obviously not to be, it would concern you, yes,” Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn said.

Mashburn said Morrow was first convicted of possessing child porn back in 2004.

“He has prior felony convictions for possession of child pornography, moving from an address without notification by a sex offender, failure to register as a sex offender and sex offender residing within 2000 feet of a school,” Mashburn said.

Calvert said even though it is summer break, her 13-year-old son, Steven, shoots hoops at the school.

She said children are still hanging out there all the time.

“There’s a lot of kids and makes me ill,” she said.

Morrow has bonded out of jail.

Mashburn said the normal penalty for possession of child pornography is up to 20 years in prison but because of Morrow’s prior convictions, he could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
