Man says storms stalk his business
OKLAHOMA CITY — Thunderstorms that rolled through the metro Tuesday night brought some much-needed rain but the summer storm also packed some strong winds.
One unlucky business owner near I-240 and Bryant said those winds damaged his property and it’s not the first time.
The victim said the roof has been torn off his business five times in the last 20 years.
“It took the roof off the building,” Larry Benson said. “High-end equipment doesn’t do well with water and humidity. Ceiling tiles have started dropping because of the weight of the water.”
Larry has owned the recording studio for more than 40 years.
The damage is far from his first brush with mother nature.
“It’s a little frustrating this is number five,” Benson said. “We must be at some lucky spot on this corner.”
Starting back in 1990, a tornado tore the roof off his business.
Like so many others, May 3, 1999 didn’t miss his business either.
“We had a total loss at that point,” Benson said.
High winds struck again in 2005 ripping off his roof a third time.
Most recently May 24 of last year forced Larry to rebuild his studio.
“I don’t like going through it,” Benson said. “You just wish it didn’t have to happen again and again.”
One thing is for sure, when Larry sees storms on the horizon, he definitely stays weather aware.
“I know it can happen again and again. We take it seriously,” Benson said.
