Cowboys, Sooners win season openers
Both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State’s football teams won their season openers Saturday night.
OSU set modern-day school records for points and margin of victory in an 84-0 rout of Savannah State in Stillwater.
OU struggled early but finished strong to beat Texas-El Paso 24-to-7 in El Paso.
OSU freshman Wes Lunt made his debut as the Cowboys starting quarterback, going 11-for-11 passing for 129 yards.
Oklahoma State rushed for 9 touchdowns in the game, three of those by Jeremy Smith.
Oklahoma saw their offense sputter early but the Sooners outscored UTEP 17-0 in the second half to get the win, as senior Landry Jones passed for 222 yards and two touchdowns.
OU is home next Saturday to host Florida A&M, while OSU visits Arizona on Saturday.
