One arrested, two injured in brief police chase
OKLAHOMA CITY — One man is in custody and two women were treated for minor injuries after a short high-speed chase through northwest Oklahoma City.
Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday police tried to pull over a driver for speeding near N.W. 23rd St. and McKinley.
The suspect took off and a mere four minutes later the chase ended with a crash near N.W. 10th St. and Western Ave.
“We heard a really loud noise,” Kimberly Spicer said. “We thought it was an accident but the noise kept coming and was getting louder.”
Spicer, who owns the Verdigris antique store, had the best vantage point from the ground when two vehicles collided right in front of her store Tuesday morning.
Officers said the driver, 30-year-old Dustin Earl Orr, reached speeds of 60 mph in a black 4-Runner reported stolen in OKC.
“The car was rolling towards the store window I thought it was coming in,” she said.
Spicer and a customer took cover behind the register, fearful the SUV would come through the glass, but the SUV took another turn.
Orr, in the stolen vehicle, collided with another SUV causing his vehicle to flip over onto its top.
OKC Police Capt. Dexter Nelson said after impact, the vehicle traveled a whole block rolling at least two times.
“It slid from Western to Classen and N.W. 10th St., down the hill on its top,” he said. “When it got close to Classen it caught a curb and flipped again but this time it turned it upright.”
Witnesses said they saw Orr jump out of the sunroof but he was in hand cuffs moments later.
His passengers, two women, were carried away on stretchers bleeding but suffered non-life threatening injuries.
“One girl had a bloody hand and she was crying a lot,” Spencer said. “They both had neck braces on when they left.”
Orr has three felony warrants for previous offenses but faces a host of new charges.
The identities of the women have not been released.
The occupants in the other SUV were not seriously injured.
