OKLAHOMA CITY—A local elementary school is taking nutrition lessons to heart and encouraging students to get a little dirty while learning about healthy foods.
Stanley Hupfeld Academy was recently awarded grants to plant food gardens for each grade.
Organizers say each grade is responsible to care for a specific garden and make sure the plants get the attention they need.
Once the fruits and vegetables are successfully grown, each student will then be allowed to reap what they have sown.
School leaders say that while the students are learning about science and nutrition outside of the classroom, they hope the lesson of a healthy lifestyle stays with them as they grow up.
