David Stanley Ford High School Senior Athlete of the Week – Kaitlin Hampton
Kaitlin looks forward to being a life long learner and plans to study and travel abroad. She looks forward to visiting and learning about other cultures.
The first place she would like to volunteer is Ethiopia. She has learned a lot about Ethiopia in her classes and looks forward to volunteering and learning all that she can about this country and their cultures. She hopes to some day be a world traveler.
Kaitlin comes from a very unique and challenging background. She was born to a young single mother who at the time was struggling to survive on her own while working, going to college, & taking care of her infant daughter.
Kaitlin has never known her father and has had 2 stepfathers. Kaitlin has struggled with ADHD her entire life and chose to stop taking medication for this frontal lobe disorder during middle school. Despite the challenges and adversity that she has faced throughout her life.
She has always maintained a positive attitude. I believe it was sports and her athletic abilities that kept her going and on the right track. As a young child she was involved in nearly every sport accessible to her in our small community: basketball, soccer, dance, tumbling, ice-skating, karate, swimming, & her ultimate favorite…Softball. Upon entering 9th grade she played softball and swam on her High School Swim Team.
By 10th grade she made the decision to focus solely on her swimming and has gone to State each year of her high school career, medaling twice. She has also served as High School Team Captain both her Junior & Senior year. During which times she has maintained employment at our local YMCA, volunteers much of her time working for the YMCA & School, all while maintaining a 4.0.
Kaitlin’s dream is to attend the University of Oklahoma and be involved in their aquatics center and intramural activities. Her hopes are to be accepted into medical school and one day receives her M.D. She looks forward to working in pediatrics because of her experiences and love of children. She wants to make this world a better place for them.
Thank you for considering Kaitlin Hampton for Student Athlete of the Week. She is polite, sweet, hard working, & charismatic. She is the most deserving person I can think of for this honor!
