OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police shut down a section of Meridian for several hours while the bomb squad examined a suspicious object left by the side of the road.

According to police, a driver alerted authorities about an abandoned blue plastic storage tub wrapped in duct tape.

The container was left along Meridian between SW 119th and SW 134th.

The bomb squad closed off the roadway and brought in x-ray machines to determine what was inside the tub.

Residents nearby watched with concern as the roadway was shut down for several hours.

"You would think that they would've said something or evacuated if it was a suspicious package. We've got two kids, so it's number one concern."  said resident Chris Morris.

The bomb squad eventually determined it was a dead dog inside the plastic tub, no explosives.

Animal Welfare responded to properly dispose of the carcass.
