A local mother is concerned about the possibility that her son was lost in the DHS system.
Shawna Bybee admitted she hasn't been a good mother and confirms being a drug user with several protective orders against her.
She's currently in a drug abuse treatment program.
Bybee's three boys were taken from her after she was arrested back in October.
She doesn't contest them being taken by the state.
She said her main concern is she believes the youngest went missing for days on their watch.
"I saw my youngest son on Thursday but from Friday until Tuesdaym Damiyen (18 months) has not been accounted for," Bybee said. "You hear horror stories about DHS losing kids in the system or kids getting hurt and you don't find out until it actually happens. It's your worst nightmare."
Bybee said the child's foster mother told her he was picked up by another couple Friday.
Bybee said when she called DHS to confirm that, she was told they didn't know where Damiyen was but would work to find him.
"It's not OK that I don't know where my son is and I don't understand why and how DHS cannot give me the answers," Bybee said.
She said she knows DHS can't give an exact address to protect the child's safety but she said when she was told they didn't know where he was, she called police.
"I wanted to put out an Amber Alert because that's my son," she said. "My son is missing and I wanted to find him."
She couldn't make that report because she does not have custody.
"They should have to prove to me they know where Damiyen is," Bybee said. "I know where the other boys are and I know that they are safe, I want to know that Damiyen is safe."
Now, DHS officials tell a very different story.
They said little Damiyen was picked up by workers on Friday and was placed in a new foster home Monday but could not go into further detail.
They also did not provide documentation showing the boy's whereabouts from that time until they say he was placed in that new home Monday.
However DHS officials said they will contact the mom and make arrangements for her to visit Damiyen.
