Deadly Crash in Kay County
KAY COUNTY, OKLAHOMA- One person, from Kansas, is dead after a car accident on State Highway 11 just west of the town of Union early Saturday morning.
The accident happened just after 8 a.m., four miles north and approximately 2 miles west of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by 21-year-old Matthew Ray McLaughlin, from Winfield, Kansas, was traveling west on SH 11, when he crossed the center line.
58-year-old Linda Sue Cantellany, was driving east in a freight liner tractor truck when McLaughlin entered into her lane of traffic. Cantellany veered to the right to avoid an accident, but t he F-150 struck the semi and rolled 2 1/4 times, before catching fire.
McLaughlin was pronounced dead at the scene.
19-year-old, Justin Wade Smith, a passenger in the F-150, was ejected from the vehicle for an unknown distance. He was later transported to Ponca City Hospital and is in good condition. Smith was not wearing a seat-belt.
Cantellany was also transported to Ponca City Hospital, where she was treated and released.
This accident is still under investigation.
