OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City teen kicks off the new year accused of committing a carjacking with a fake weapon.
The 15-year-old allegedly used a BB gun to steal a man's car early New Year's Day in Bricktown.
Luckily, no one got hurt during the crime.
With music and fireworks, thousands came downtown to kick off the new year.
In a nearby parking lot in Bricktown, an armed thief approached the 26-year-old victim who didn't want to be identified.
"He started to reach into his coat pocket and got out a gun," the male victim said. "He put it to my chest and said 'Give me your keys.'"
Because the gun looked real, the victim handed over his keys and tried to reason with the armed suspect.
"I could tell he was terrified," he said. "He was more scared than I was. It made me realize I needed to calm this down a little bit."
Several of the suspect's accomplices then got in the car and fled but the accused thief, 15-year-old Deshon Harvey, stayed in the parking lot.
After a witness quickly flagged down police, officers found Harvey with the weapon still in hand.
Despite the fact that the teen used a fake weapon, he's still facing a very real charge of armed robbery.
"It doesn't change the robbery just because he was using a BB gun," OKC Police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said. "The victim did not know it was a BB gun. He believed he was pointing a real firearm at him."
The suspect was booked into the Oklahoma County jail as a youthful offender.
