Former teacher accused of sex crimes headed to trial
SHAWNEE, Okla. – A former teacher in Pottawatomie County is headed to trial after waiving her preliminary hearing Monday.
Wendy Hickman, 40, of Shawnee, is charged with three counts, including second-degree rape.
Prosecutors allege she had sex with a 16-year-old male student.
Hickman taught at Bethel High School.
Her preliminary hearing would have determined whether or not there was enough evidence to send Hickman to trial.
Now that Hickman has waived her rights, an arraignment has been set for Feb. 20.
A trial date may also be set next month as well.
