Changes coming to monthly Social Security checks
WASHINGTON, D.C.—If you receive a Social Security check each month, you will notice a few changes in the future.
The government is phasing out paper checks in an effort to cut costs.
Currently, 5 million checks are mailed out each month.
Printing and mailing those checks costs the U.S. Treasury Department a little over $4 million.
Everyone who receives a check is being asked to switch to direct deposit by March 1.
