Monopoly changes tokens, voters choose favorites
When sitting around the table to play a board game, every player usually has a favorite game piece in mind.
However, fans of Monopoly are racing to save their favorites before they are taken away forever.
Hasbro has launched a “Save Your Token” campaign for fans of the classic game.
The company announced that it is retiring one token and will replace it with a new one this year.
Through Monopoly’s Facebook page, fans can vote for the piece they want to keep.
Voters can choose to save the car, the boot, the top hat, the Scottie dog, the wheelbarrow, the thimble, the battleship, the iron or the shoe.
At this point, fans of the boot and the thimble may need to choose another favorite piece.
Whichever token is taken away will be replaced with a new game piece.
In addition to voting for which item you want to keep in the game, you can also choose which replacement token will join the game.
The new choices are a toy robot, a helicopter, a cat, a guitar or a diamond ring.
Players can cast their votes until Feb. 5.
Officials say a limited-edition “Golden Token” Monopoly will arrive exclusively in Target stores in mid-Feb.
It’ll be the last edition to contain all of the classic tokens and the only set to include all five of the potential new tokens.
