David Stanley Chevrolet of Norman High School Senior Athlete of the Week – Drew Alexander

Posted on: 5:15 pm, January 10, 2013, by , updated on: 05:16pm, January 10, 2013

Drew is Senior at Edmond North High School. He is also a student in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. The Academy focuses on rigorous math and science classes to prepare a foundation for success at the university level. Drew’s goal is to major in pre-med at the University of Oklahoma.

Over the course of his high school career, he will graduate with 6 high school science credits which include classes in Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics and Anatomy/Physiology.

Drew possesses a keen awareness to be a well-rounded student. He has taken advantage of opportunities to volunteer within his community. He has over 150 hours serving in community walks, working with Miracle League (a baseball league in Edmond for children with disabilities), volunteering at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank, and the Ronald McDonald House. His work in the community has given him the courage to see people as individuals as he works toward his preparation for a career in health and medicine. He knows health care is not just about science and medicine, but treating people with dignity and respect.

Drew is a natural leader. He currently serves as Health Occupations Students of America chapter President for the 2012/2013 school year. He is leading a very active chapter. To date, he has headed up raising school supplies for an elementary school and is planning a campus “fun run” to raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Serving as President has given Drew confidence to present information about the program and to speak to Advisory Committee Members, State Legislators, and potential students. Drew is articulate and welcoming. He is confident in who he is and what he is able to accomplish. He is learning to further develop his leadership potential as a member of Francis Tuttle’s Superintendent Leadership Academy. He is learning and practicing leadership skills that will allow him to rise above his peers as he enters university and works to pursue his goals.

To help reach his goals, Drew spent time this summer shadowing a pediatric cardiology and a physician at the OU Medical Center. He understands in order to meet the challenges and demand of attending medical school; he must first understand the field from a day-to-day perspective. He has the desire and the talent to be a physician.

Drew is an active member of the Husky Wrestling Team. He has wrestled with Edmond North since 2008. His accomplishments include the Husky Wrestling Award in 2010 and Outstanding Wrestler in the 2011-2012 school year.

Drew is an exceptional young man. I look forward to seeing what he is able to accomplish in the years ahead as he works to pursue his goals and dreams. I strongly recommend him for KFOR’s Athlete of the Week. He is a leader in sports and he is a leader among his peers.
