Father, 2 sons die hiking in Missouri
ELLINGTON, Mo. – A father and his two sons from Illinois died while hiking on a trail in southeast Missouri over the weekend.
The Air Force veteran, known as an experienced hiker, got lost on a desolate trail in heavy rain and plunging temperatures.
Reynolds County Sheriff Tom Volner says 36-year-old David Decareaux of Millstadt, Ill., his 10-year-old son Dominic and his 8-year-old son Grant were found Sunday, a day after they ventured out on the trail, about 110 miles southwest of St. Louis.
Decareaux died at the scene and the boys died at a hospital.
Sheriff Volner said the man’s wife reported them missing Saturday.
Reportedly the temperatures were in the 60s Saturday afternoon but plummeted to the 20s after the heavy rains.
