2 shot, 1 injured in community college shooting
HAZARD, Ky.—Investigators say they are still looking into a double murder a college campus Tuesday night.
Around 6 p.m., police were called to the Hazard Community and Technical College campus after receiving reports of shots being fired.
When officers arrived, they found two people shot to death and a child wounded in the parking lot.
The campus was immediately put on lockdown as a precaution.
Police identified the two victims as 21-year-old Caitlin Cornett and her uncle, Jackie Cornett.
The surviving victim, 11-year-old Taylor Cornett, was flown to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities arrested Dalton Stidham with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Stidham and Caitlin shared a two-year-old and were in a bitter custody dispute.
Family members say Caitlin had car trouble Tuesday and her uncle drove her to the parking lot to meet with Stidham to pick up her child.
That’s when shots Stidham allegedly attacked the family before fleeing the scene.
