Canadian County deputies make $400,000 bust

EL RENO, Okla.– Deputies in Canadian County say they have made one of the largest marijuana busts in recent years.

They arrested two people traveling through the state with nearly 230 pounds of the drug, which adds up to about $400,000.

Around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, officers noticed a driver along I-40 making an improper lane change.

What started out as a traffic stop completely changed when K9 officer “Eddy” showed up on scene.

“Eddy” alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.

Authorities say 46-year-old Nathan Bond and 37-year-old Carmelita Ousley were arrested as deputies began unloading pound after pound of suspected marijuana.

“We’re real proud of what our guys did here. The deputies were on top of their game and we were able to intercept a load that was going eastbound and we’re gonna be able to keep it off the street,” said Chris West, Canadian County Undersheriff. “Other than about 14 pounds of methamphetamine we took of the road a couple of weeks ago it’s probably been about two years since we’ve made a bust of this size.”

Bond and Ousely both face drug trafficking charges.

No word yet on the amount of their bail.
