Fostering Hope in Okla. foster care

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services settled a class action, civil rights lawsuit and as part of this settlement agreement, DHS developed an improvement plan called the Pinnacle Plan.

One of the cornerstones of the reform plan is reducing or eliminating the use of state shelters for all age groups but especially for children under the age of two

Unfortunately, DHS is already running into trouble abiding by the new plan, there simply are not enough foster families to care for all the children.

At least 2,000 new foster families are needed by June 30, that’s about 500 more than last year.

Valarie Howard with “One Church, One Child,” explained what is involved and how you can become a foster parent.

Belinda Ball, who is currently a Kinship foster parent and in the process of trying to adopt her son’s sibling, came to share her perspective as well.
