BP agrees to $4 billion settlement in Gulf oil spill
NEW ORLEANS—A federal judge in Louisiana has approved a massive settlement for the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
The settlement includes an agreement by BP to plead guilty to manslaughter and other charges.
Eleven workers were killed in the explosion and the judge told company officials they should have apologized to the families of those victims.
The company will also have to pay $4 billion in the case.
In Nov., BP agreed to plead guilty to charges related to those deaths and lying to Congress about the size of the spill.
