Case of meningitis reported in Shawnee school
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Health officials confirm a student in Shawnee has contracted bacterial meningitis.
State and county health authorities sent a letter home Friday afternoon with students of Sequoyah Elementary School in Shawnee.
The letter was an effort to ease parents’ concerns on the illness.
It stated the student was being treated and they didn’t believe anyone who had contact with the child was at risk.
Even though the risk is low, authorities said parents should alert for any symptoms including fever, severe headache, stiff neck and vomiting.
