LEFLORE COUNTY, Okla. – A man is in stable condition after his adult son shot him three times, authorities said, because of a Super Bowl-sparked debate.
According to our Arkansas sister station, KFSM, 35-year-old Robert Gene Hamner was flown to a Tulsa hospital Sunday night.
After the Super Bowl ended, authorities were called to a home just outside of Poteau.
Sheriff Rob Seale said, “There was some alcohol involved in the incident and it just kind of escalated out of control from there.”
Investigators said they believe Hamner was unhappy with the outcome of the game and began assaulting his wife.
Police said the woman’s 21-year-old son fired four shots from a .40 caliber handgun at Hamner, three of which struck him in the abdomen.
KFSM reported police questioned the son but he has not been arrested or charged.
“No one wants to come out to a scene like this, where something starts with a football game, where alcohol is involved,” Seale said. “It’s just an unfortunate incident for the entire family.”
The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers, 34 to 31.
