Circumstances surrounding firefighter’s death unclear
SEMINOLE COUNTY – A volunteer fire captain is dead following an altercation at the Strother Fire Department early Thursday morning.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the death of Dale Patterson who died after he was taken to the hospital.
Authorities are releasing very few details; Sheriff Shannon Smith said the incident involved another firefighter.
Strother Fire Chief Nicholas Nadeau said Patterson had been with the department for six years.
He joined after he retired from law enforcement.
“Good-hearted, strong spirit; he would give the shirt right off his back in the middle of a blizzard, he’s just very loving and caring,” Chief Nadeau said.
An investigation is underway to determine if charges will be filed.
Once the investigation is complete, the evidence will be turned over to the district attorney’s office.
