WASHINGTON—Budget cuts are leading to a halt in tuition assistance for soldiers and Marines.

The Army announced that it was suspending its tuition assistance program at the end of business Friday.

Officials say the 200,000 soldiers taking courses through the program will be able to complete their current classes.

Beginning Saturday, no aid applications for future coursework will be accepted.

The Army’s announcement follows a similar decision earlier this week by the Marine Corps.
