Judge refuses to dismiss manslaughter charges against officer
DEL CITY, Okla.— The case against the Del City police officer who is accused of shooting a teenager following a high-speed chase will continue.
Randy Harrison is charged with one count of manslaughter after prosecutors say he shot 18-year-old Dane Scott Jr. in the back.
Authorities say Harrison and other officers responded to a high-speed chase through town.
The chase ended when the suspect’s car crashed at I-35 and S.E. 15th St.
Witnesses say Scott pulled out a gun after the wreck but Harrison wrestled the weapon away.
When Scott tried to run away, Harrison allegedly fired several rounds, missing three times.
However, a fourth shot hit the unarmed teenager in the back.
Friday, Harrison was in court to ask the judge to dismiss the manslaughter charges against him.
The judge refused to dismiss the charges and put a gag order on the case.
