Drug manufacturing leads to apartment explosion


EDMOND, Okla. – Edmond Police have taken a man into custody after he admitted to cooking hash oil in his apartment leading to an explosion at the Sunset Ridge apartments near 9th St. and Boulevard in Edmond.

Derek Wayne Hofford, 26, originally told police he was cooking chicken nuggets when the explosion occurred.

He later admitted to police that he had been cooking hash oil, which is a substance made from cannabis.

Hofford is facing charges of manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received minor burns to his face and his hands.
