Small community shocked after couple found murdered in home
BOLEY, Okla. - A small Oklahoma community is reeling after two of their own were discovered murdered.
It happened just Southwest of the town of Boley, near Prague, in Okfuskee County.
The OSBI has stepped in to help with the investigation.
Family members we encountered Tuesday said they did not wish to talk about what happened.
Meanwhile, investigators said the medical examiner will have to determine the cause of death; however, they are sure this was a homicide.
Neighbor Doris Weibe said, “It is frightening to know that somebody did that along our road.”
Weibe and her family have lived in the area for about eight years.
She said, “There’s not really much traffic, except when it’s hunting season.”
So, when police and sheriff’s vehicles raced down her rural road Monday afternoon, her family knew something was wrong.
She said, “I asked if there was trouble and he said, ‘There’s a little bit of trouble but we aren’t going to say any more.’”
OSBI’s Jessica Brown said, “We believe this is a homicide case; we are investigating as though this is a homicide case.”
The OSBI said two people, 54-year-old Denver Holloway and his wife, 53-year-old Martha Holloway, were found dead in their home Monday afternoon.
“We don’t have any suspect information right now,” Brown said. “We are running on some leads, some promising leads, but we don’t have any named suspects at this time.”
“We were shocked because we thought we had very good neighbors,” Weibe said. “We never knew something like that would go on.”
Brown said, “It’s certainly not common to have a double homicide in that area.”
Boley is a small, rural town that residents say is very quiet.
In fact, very few people in town knew about what happened.
Investigators are saying very little about how the couple died or who may be responsible.
Weibe said the couple was friendly and never seemed to cause any trouble.
Weibe said, “It’s very scary to know something like that happened close to our door.”
The OSBI said they have an investigator who lives in that county who is heading up the investigation.
It is the same investigator who they said solved the case of the two young Weleetka girls murdered a few years back.
