Thousands of people who relied on a trusted company to do their taxes are now in limbo when it comes to their returns.
H&R Block announced that it made a major mistake related to the educational tax credit.
The nation’s largest tax preparer said the filing problem impacts over 600,000 college students who filed their taxes between Feb. 14 and Feb. 22.
The IRS said all those returns will be delayed until the problem is fixed.
It seems the mistake is causing even bigger problems for the students involved.
Financial aid deadlines are quickly approaching and require that tax information.
However, the delay could mean those students will miss those deadlines.
So far, H&R Block has not said whether it plans to offer rebates or other compensation for those impacted by the mess.
