OKLAHOMA CITY - Each year, runners from across the country converge here in the metro for a worthwhile cause.
We're talking about the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
"Runner's World Magazine" calls the event "one of the 12 must-run marathons."
A metro business is gearing up for the big day.
Coordinators for the 13th annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon have teamed up with a local printing press, USA Screen Printing, to produce over 35,000 shirts for the event coming up next month.
Mollie Bennett, Memorial Marathon coordinator said they wanted to go for a new look this year.
"We heard from our runners this year that they wanted a new intricate design, something fresh and something like we haven't done before so we gave USA this challenge and this is the design they've accepted it,” Bennett said. “It turned out great and we are thrilled to be working with an Oklahoma company"
Hats, t-shirts and safety vests are just a few of the items USA Screen Printing is working on for the marathon.
Owner of USA Screen Printing, Chris Johnson said they've had to buy new equipment just to finish this order.
“It’s a huge challenge this year to print this type of shirt,” he said. “There are 11 colors of ink going down on the shirt and actually creating 600 shades of different colors on the shirt, so that is incredible. It’s the hardest print ever most intricate print we've ever done here at screen printing.”
A challenge because Johnson said it takes 600 colors to make the swoosh you'll see in the Memorial Marathon this year.
