OKLAHOMA CITY - Sunday morning around 1:50 a.m., Oklahoma City police responded to a stabbing call at the Willow Cliff Apartments in the 5300 block of Willow Creek Dr.
A woman told police her husband had stabbed her and she'd jumped from a second story apartment to escape him.
He then barricaded himself inside with their two children, ages 4 and 14.
Police negotiated with him for more than eight hours before finally forcing their way inside and taking him into custody.
"The two hostages, so to speak, the 4 year old and 14 year old, are OK," OKC Police Capt. Dexter Nelson said. "Again, the mom has been treated and released. She is back here at the scene."
Fernando Arledge, 35, was arrested and is facing charges of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Charity Ledford lives at the Willow Cliff Apartments with her 5-month-old daughter, Genesis.
The overnight standoff doesn't surprise her.
"Domestic violence is a huge issue," Ledford said. "I don't feel safe here. I feel like I don't talk to anybody because of it. I've become a complete recluse."
Police are no stranger to the apartment complex.
Earlier in March, they found someone dead inside a burning car.
And last year, they shot and killed a suspect at the complex.
Ledford plans to move her daughter to a safer place.
"It's horrible. It's one of the, it's the worst place I've ever lived," she said.
Police said they're working with apartment management to curb the crime.
"I can tell you that the Hefner Division, which is where we're at, is aware of the problems here and they are trying to get in here as often as possible," Capt. Nelson said.
We were not able to reach anyone in the management office of the apartment complex for comment on Sunday.
