OKLAHOMA CITY – Some disturbing research is surfacing about our teenagers who live right here in the Sooner State.
Medical experts said more and more are at risk for heart disease.
We are taking a look at those findings and how parents can help their kids avoid a lifetime of illness or early heart attack.
The study finds our young people are not eating right or getting enough exercise.
The study used data from 4,600 kids between the ages of 12 and 19.
They were tested for things like smoking, diet, physical activity and blood pressure to name a few.
Except for a decrease in smoking, the results were not great.
So does that mean the younger generation’s life expectancy will be shorter than their parents?
Doctors said it’s a possibility.
One big way to combat the problem seems simple enough, get more exercise.
Experts said our children also consume way too much salt in their diets and not near enough fruits and vegetables.
