OKLAHOMA CITY – Police are searching for a thief accused of multiple home break-ins in Oklahoma City.
The alleged crook was caught on video using crutches and hopping on one leg while committing the crimes.
Police said they know who they’re looking for but they’re asking for the public’s help catching the suspect.
The hobbled thief is accused of at least three home break-ins.
First on S.W. 46th St., days later on S.W. 78th St. and again on S.W. 46th St.
Oklahoma City police said they are looking for 28-year-old Ernest Sarabia in the series of home burglaries.
“They were here five or six minutes but it was a big mess,” one victim said.
The victim on 78th St. didn’t want to be shown but said Sarabia and a second unnamed suspect cleaned out her home in just a few minutes.
“They took two TVs, an Xbox, PlayStation and even the beer in the fridge,” the victim said.
In early March police said the same suspect pried open the front door at a different home stealing some electronics and jewelry.
A surveillance camera across the street showed the hobbled thief.
“It shows the suspect on crutches walking up to the front door,” Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.
Minutes later the victim returned home to find the thief still inside.
The surveillance video shows the thief ditching his crutches and fleeing the home chased by the victim.
The suspect nearly ran over that victim as he drove away.
“It gets emotional when you have stuff kicked in and broken in like that,” the victim said. “It was really devastating. My kids slept in my room for three nights because it was horrible.”
That victim hopes someone turns in the accused thief before he breaks into any more homes.
“I just really hope he gets caught so he doesn’t do this anymore,” the victim said. “I hope no one else has to go through feeling what we did.”
Prosecutors have filed an arrest warrant against Sarabia.
