Family speaks after fatal officer-involved shooting
OKLAHOMA CITY – New details are coming out on a deadly shootout Tuesday night.
Two people died after an officer-involved shooting near the Motel 6 on S.E. 44th St. and I-35.
The metro fugitive task force showed up to arrest 23-year-old Christopher Stout.
Police said officers opened fire when Stout tried to drive away.
“We don’t know how many officers were present but the preliminary report reveals seven officers fired at the suspects,” Oklahoma City police Captain Dexter Nelson said.
Stout had a warrant for his arrest out of Payne County on a burglary charge.
Both Chris and his girlfriend, Stacey Stout, died in the gunfire.
Stacey Stout had been arrested before but never charged with a crime.
“Chris Stout is the only person in the vehicle to have a warrant,” Nelson said. “We haven’t found a criminal record for Stacey Stout and she was not wanted at the time.”
Stacey Stout’s mother wrote a response to the shooting on her Facebook page:
Another family friend of the 20-year-old mother contacted KFOR with a message.
“Stacey was an innocent victim caught in a situation and it cost her her life.. [sic] She was so precious to so many people and spent her whole life trying to make others happy….. [sic] tragic.”
Police admit right now it’s unclear if Christopher Stout had a gun with him at the time of the shooting and deciding whether officers had just cause to open fire remains under investigation.
“Because of the multi-jurisdictional aspects of the case, it may be some time before we determine what happened and who fired what shots,” Nelson said.
One officer suffered a minor leg injury on scene.
He is doing fine.
Some of the involved officers remain on paid leave while the case is investigated.
