OKARCHE, Okla. – The late winter storm pounded areas west of the metro Wednesday morning.
The freezing temperatures and winter weather conditions are not what you’d expect to see during spring.
“They said it was coming, so I guess they got it right.” David Autrey said. “Good old Oklahoma for you.”
The winter weather seems determined to hang on for as long as it can.
Freezing rain and sleet knocked out power for some Okarche residents.
For others on the western side of the metro, the icy roads caused problems for motorists trying to get to work.
“I looked outside and it looks like we`ve got about a quarter of an inch on the power lines,” Autrey said.
“The electricity had gone off before I could get out of town,” Debbie Lasley said. “And then as I got on I-40 it was raining pretty hard.”
The winter blast is completely wiping out all traces of spring across the state.
Many are wondering when the weather will end.
“I do not like it,” Margaret Kochenower said. “I like the spring weather. This should be spring not winter.”
It’s been awhile since Oklahoma residents have seen winter weather this late in the year.
“I`m concerned about the electricity and trees,” Kochenower said. “We don`t need another storm like we had a few years ago.”
“It’s very unusual though, I mean, it’s crazy,” Lasley said.
While Old Man Winter rears his head one last time, people are hoping it won’t be long before they see the sun shining again.
“I’m ready for spring,” Lasley said. “I’ve driven in enough bad weather and I’m ready for spring time.”
It may be a few more days before we get back to more spring-like temperatures but the winter weather conditions will start clearing up on Thursday.
