Young, Hand drafted by the WNBA
Oklahoma State star Toni Young was selected #7 overall in the very first round of Monday night’s WNBA draft, going to the New York Liberty. The former Del City star is the second OSU player ever to be drafted, joining former Cowgirl Andrea Riley.
In a surprise move, the San Antonio Silver Stars selected injured Oklahoma University star Whitney Hand in the 3rd round of the WNBA draft. Hand, who is married to former OU quarterback Landry Jones and who missed most of her senior season with a knee injury, said she too was “surprised” to be selected – but if she were to make the team, she would be re-united with former Sooners point guard Danielle Robinson in San Antonio.
Baylor’s 6-8 national “Player of the Year” Brittney Griner was the #1 overall pick to the Phoenix Mercury while the Tulsa Shock had the 3rd choice overall and selected Notre Dame’s all-america point guard Skylar Diggins.
