Local roofer shares storm damage secrets
Local roof salesman, Greg Cannon, said he’s exposing inside trade information in his book Storm Damage Secrets: The Must Have Guide To Choosing the Right Roofer in Oklahoma.
“All the time I hear the stories, ‘this guy ripped me off,’” Cannon said.
Cannon spent more than a decade chasing storms around the country before settling here in Oklahoma four years ago.
He said the amount of fraud in our state caused him to write the book.
“It’s tricks that all these guys are taught,” he said.
Cannon said Oklahoma is an easy target for dishonest out-of-state roofers because our state only requires registration, not licensing.
He points out two ways you can make sure you’re dealing with a reputable company.
“You can ask which supplier they use for their shingles and ask for a letter of reference from that supplier,” Cannon said. “Also, the secretary or state’s website will tell you how long that company’s been in business,” said Cannon.
And he said get interviews, not estimates.
The most money you should be out would be your deductible.
“Find out which guy’s better for you versus which guy’s got the lower bid,” Cannon said.
Cannon said some roofers are upset about his book.
“I didn’t write it to make friends,” he said.
Cannon said his goal is to help Oklahomans make the most informed decision after being hit by a storm.
