Canadian County officials seeing growing marijuana trend
CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – Officials said they are seeing a growing trend with a certain type of street drug in Canadian County.
Authorities said dealers are scientifically engineering marijuana to be much more potent and much more expensive.
Canadian County Undersheriff Chirs West said, “It seems like here lately three out of the last four marijuana busts that we’ve made definitely look like they’re hydroponics.”
West said it’s a highly potent form grown differently than the traditional plant.
Authorities said it contains higher levels of THC and therefore is much more expensive than what is normally bought and sold here in Oklahoma.
Officials said it is usually sealed in air-tight bags or compact bricks.
West said the closer to the East Coast it gets, the more valuable it becomes.
In Oklahoma, West said it sells for about $5,000 per pound on the street.
