WATERTOWN, Conn.—It’s pretty uncommon for a police officer to deliver a stranger’s baby but it’s not something that is unheard of entirely.
However, one police sergeant in Connecticut has delivered five babies while on the job.
Aloise, just five-days-old, has been going pretty easy on Bronwyn Hamill Roberti but her arrival was a little more chaotic.
Her plan was to go to her parents’ house when she started feeling contractions since it is actually closer to the hospital.
Roberti said, “By the time I got to my parents’ house, I’d say within 10 minutes of being there I had to push.”
Her family sprang into action and called for backup.
Roberti said, “I had, like, a freak-out moment and then my mom called 911. And then at that point I kind of got really focused, so I don’t know how it played out. But in my mind I moved from the bathroom to the kitchen and then they were all there and the sergeant was there.”
Sgt. Steve Skowronski, with the Watertown Police Department, helped Roberti give birth.
This latest case is his fifth delivery while wearing a uniform.
Sgt. Skowronski said, “We just worked with the contractions and I would say within 5 minutes of my arrival, if not sooner, we had a little baby girl.”
He says he has five children of his own but he has never delivered any of them.
