Atoka County investigating officer-involved shooting at campgrounds
Atoka County authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened over the weekend.
Saturday night campers at McGee Creek State Park reported a man acting strangely and causing a disturbance.
When a park ranger found 30-year-old David Adam Patrick Maher, he refused to cooperate and ran to his vehicle.
Authorities said Maher then tried to run over the ranger, forcing the officer to fire his weapon.
Maher was hit at least one time and later died at a nearby hospital.
He’s believed to have been from the New York area.
