The primary responsibilities of the full-time news meteorologist are to produce and present weather information on the station’s newscasts, local programs or special reports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1.Minimum three to five years on-air weather anchoring/reporting experience.
2.Meteorological or other like sciences degree.
3.Must be able to work under extreme pressure, stress and deadlines.
4.Must be able to work holidays, weekends and unusual shifts.
1.Anchor weather segments on regularly scheduled newscasts.
2.Responsible for the airing of severe weather statements, cut-ins, crawls and specials.
3.Maintains contact with the national weather service, area meteorologists and weather observers around the viewing area.
4.Compiles forecasts and other weather data for air using the NOAA weather wire, the weather computer system, other wires and information sources.
5.Arranges and composes maps and illustrations using the weather graphics computer or other similar device.
6.Makes regular public appearances, including school visits and station promotions.
7.Reporting for newscasts as needed.
8.Monitors severe weather overnight and weekends as needed.
9.Communications through social media and daily blogs.
10.Performs other duties as assigned.
