Half-million dollar Kay Jewelry heist
SNELLVILLE, GA — Police in Gwinnett County, Georgia are hoping a surveillance video will help them identify a couple who made off with a half-million dollars in jewelry in a heist on June 5th. The robbery happened shortly after the Kay Jewelers store in Snellville opened for the day.
“At about 10:00 sharp is when the suspect is first noticed on video in front of the store walking back and forth apparently kind of casing the place,” Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith said.
Smith said a woman entered the store a short time later. He said the suspects took keys from two clerks and began opening jewelry cases. Police believe the two suspects did their homework and may have done this before.
“They didn’t bother trying to smash the cases, they’re very difficult to smash open,” Smith said. “They waited until they had a key, they conducted a little bit of surveillance and seemed to be generally familiar with the layout of the store.”
