Rose earns first major title, Michelson 2nd again at U.S. Open
ARDMORE, PA — England’s Justin Rose shot a final round 70 to finish at 1-over par and win his first major championship, winning the U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania by two strokes over Phil Mickelson and Jason Day.
Rose became the first Englishman to win a major title since Nick Faldo won the 1996 Masters. Mickelson had a chance to win his first U.S. Open, but bogeys on #13, #15, and #18 left him as the runner-up for a record 6th time.
Former OSU golfer Hunter Mahan had the best finish among Oklahoma related golfers at 5-over par. Mahan was paired with Mickelson in the final group, but did not record a birdie during the final round.
Another former Cowboy, Rickie Fowler, shot 74 and finished at 7-over par.
Tiger Woods had his worst major title as a pro, finishing at 13-over par, his worst major score ever in relation to par.
