Man identified in MWC Walmart child hostage situation
Suspect Sammie Lamont Wallace
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. – Police have now identified the suspect in that deadly hostage situation at a Midwest City Walmart Monday.
That afternoon officers were called to a possible kidnapping at the Walmart Neighborhood Market near Reno and Midwest Blvd.
When they arrived, they found 37-year-old Sammie Lamont Wallace at the back of the store.
Authorities said Wallace grabbed a 2-year-old girl out of a shooting cart and was holding her hostage with a knife.
After several minutes of negotiating, police said Wallace began to count down the time left on the child’s life and acted like he was going to stab her.
That’s when an officer fired one shot, instantly killing Wallace.
The child was not injured.
Officials said Wallace did not know the toddler and they are still trying to determine his motive for the crime.
