WASHINGTON – As families across the country celebrate Independence Day with fireworks and cookouts, the president is acknowledging the past and present heroes of the country.

In his weekly address, Pres. Obama recognized all those who have made the United States what it is today.

From the founding fathers and patriots, to the men and women currently serving in the military, the Commander in Chief expressed his gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

“You have defended us at home and abroad and you have fought on our nation’s behalf to make the world a better, safer place,” Pres. Obama said. “People in scattered corners of the world are living in peace today, free to write their own futures, because of you.”

He also thanked military family members for their commitment and sacrifice while their loved ones are serving or have served our country.
