MIDWEST CITY- Organizers say veterans now have a place to call their own in Midwest City.
Friday, officials dedicated a new veteran’s memorial at Joe B. Barnes Regional park.
It has been an effort by Midwest City citizens who raised over $200,000 over the past few years.
The city also received a grant for the project.
A special flag raising ceremony was held Friday morning, followed by music and activities.
The entire project was sparked by a citizen who noticed the park did not have an American flag.
That observation snowballed into a plan to build an entire memorial.
Organizers say the memorial will have a paved courtyard that can be used for events that celebrate the Armed Forces.
